TRI-WEST VS. SOUTHMONT Game Time: 7 p.m. Place: Southmont Records: Southmont 5-3 (4-2) after beating Lebanon 24-17; Tri-West is 3-5 (3-3) after beating Crawfordsville 42-12 First Meeting: Oct. 31, 1986 (Tri-West won 49-0 in a sectional game) Last Meeting: Sept. 30, 2016 (Tri-West won 34-7) Last 10 Meetings: Tri-West leads 7-3 Last Southmont Win: Sept. 16, 2011 when Southmont won 42-8 Overall Series: Tri-West leads 15-5 Games at Southmont: Tri-West leads 7-3 Notes: These two schools are meeting for 21st time with the first meeting of the series being in sectional play in 1986… 13 years later the two teams started playing every year when the Bruins joined the Sagamore Athletic Conference… Tri-West won the first two meetings before Southmont then won the next two. Tri-West then won eight straight before Southmont won three straight and the Bruins have won the last five meetings.. Only five of the previous 20 games have been decided by a touchdown or less, the last one coming in 2012 when Tri-West beat the Mounties 27-26… The Bruins started the season 1-5 before beating North Montgomery and Crawfordsville the past two weeks… Tri-West has not beaten a team with a winning record this season as their three wins have come against teams with a combined record of 3-21… The Bruins could easily be 5-3 as they lost to Western Boone 35-34 and Lebanon 28-25… Reese VanCleave leads the Mounties ground attack with 548 yards on 100 carries, but quarterback Hunter Chadwick and Kyle Nunemaker each are also averaging more than 45 yards a game as the Mounties are grinding out nearly 200 yards a game on the ground… The Mounties have turned the ball over 11 times this season but have forced 15 turnovers… Southmont Coach Desson Hannum was this week’s District 6 Colts Coach of the Week…
