SOUTHMONT VS. NORTH MONTGOMERY Game Time: 7 p.m. Place: North Montgomery Records: North Montgomery is 1-1 after losing to Owen Valley 30-27 last week; Southmont is 1-1 after beating North Putnam 49-27 last week. First Meeting: Oct. 1, 1971 (Southmont won 34-6) Last Meeting: Sept. 2, 2016 (Southmont won 41-31) Last 10 Meetings: North Montgomery leads 6-4 Last Southmont Win: Sept. 2, 2016 when Southmont won 41-31 Last North Montgomery Win: Sept. 5, 2015 when North Montgomery won 48-6 Overall Series: North Montgomery leads 34-14 Games at North Montgomery: North Montgomery leads 15-9 Notes: For the 49th time these two county rivals will be battling on the gridiron… Even though the Chargers are the home team, home field has not been much of a factor in this series as the home team has only won 20 of the 47 games played at either Southmont or North Montgomery (one meeting was at the RCA Dome)… In fact, Southmont has won two of the last three games played at North Montgomery and both those scores were 28-27… The winning team has scored 40 or more points in the last three games… The series has seen its fair share of close games with 14 of the 48 previous meetings being decided by six points or less… Ten of those 14 close decisions have come at North Montgomery… A Southmont win would give the Mounties back-to-back for just the third time in the long history as the won in 1977-78-79 and then in 2010-11… Southmont has a 4-3 advantage in the past seven meetings…. Prior to that, the Chargers had won eight in a row and 24 of the previous 26 meetings… From 1986 through 1997 the Chargers won 12 games in a row… That streak was actually 14 in a row on the field by Southmont was awarded a forfeit in 1985… In the first 15 meetings of the series it was as tight as you could get it as Southmont owned a slim 8-7 advantage… There have been two OT games and one double OT game in the series… North Montgomery owns the largest margin of victory in the series when it posted a 51-0 shutout in 1987… There have been seven shutouts in the series and North Montgomery has recorded them all (and it won the 1985 game 33-0 which was later forfeits and that shutout was erased)… In the previous 48 games North Montgomery has averaged 26 points, while Southmont has averaged 15 points… Last week’s 49 points by the Mounties was their best offensive output since Southmont put up 56 points in a sectional game against Taylor on Oct. 25, 2013…
